MEP Lucas Fourlas Calls for Harsh Sanctions Against Iran

The Permanent Rapporteur of the European Parliament for relations with Iran, Lucas Fourlas, is calling for harsh sanctions against the Iranian regime, denouncing the brutal violence used against protesters. The discussion took place during a plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, where a resolution on the matter is expected to be approved. Mr. Fourlas emphasized that the Iranian regime responds to protests with violence, shooting at demonstrators, torture, arbitrary arrests, and executions. He noted that thousands of people have lost their lives and tens of thousands are in prison for daring to demand freedom, dignity, and rights. The MEP stressed that the European Union cannot limit itself to statements and appeals, but must act decisively with targeted and harsh sanctions against those responsible for the bloodshed and repression. He reiterated his solidarity with the people of Iran and the protesters, emphasizing that freedom cannot be suppressed by violence and that the sacrifices of the victims will not be forgotten. He called for immediate action and support for the Iranian people.
