The recent explosion at the British base in Akrotiri highlighted the threat of kamikaze drones, specifically the Iranian-designed Shahed 136. The Shahed 136 is a low-cost but effective system, capable of covering long distances (up to 1,000 km) and being launched in swarms, overloading air defense systems. It features a triangular body, weighs around 200 kg, and carries a 40-50 kg payload. Due to its low production cost, it is accessible to various actors. Its flexibility in launch and ability to cause significant damage make it a serious weapon in modern hybrid warfare. Its use in Cyprus confirms the growing threat posed by drones.
