Foot-and-Mouth Disease Spreads Beyond Surveillance Zone

Foot-and-mouth disease is spreading beyond the 10-kilometer surveillance zone in the province of Larnaca, with confirmed cases in areas such as Idalion and Geri. The situation has been declared a state of emergency, resulting in the culling of animals on affected farms and the imposition of strict restrictions on the movement of animals and animal products. Veterinary Services have activated European protocols and established a new protection and surveillance zone around the Idalion area. Approximately 38 outbreaks have been confirmed and around 15,000 animals have been culled, with the process continuing. Checks and disinfection are being carried out in the protection and surveillance zones, and official announcements are expected regarding additional measures.
