Foot-and-Mouth Disease: No New Cases – Blockades in Geri and Dali, Border Closures Considered

There have been no new cases of foot-and-mouth disease so far, however the Veterinary Services are awaiting the results of laboratory tests. Strict measures have been taken in Geri and Dali, with blockades of the areas within a 3 and 10 kilometer radius, spraying, sampling, tracing and vaccinations. The vaccination rate in cattle has reached 82.67% and in goats and sheep 45.74% nationwide. The spread of the disease is considered worrying and requires strict adherence to measures. The Pan-Cypriot Grain Producers Organization proposes the closure of crossing points to and from the occupied territories and the intensification of controls along the ceasefire line, while expressing support for livestock farmers.
