Venezuela: 'New Agenda' and Opening of Dialogue with the EU

The Venezuelan government has stated its readiness for a 'new agenda' with the European Union, following a meeting of diplomats from both sides. Interim President Delcy Rodriguez, who took power on January 5th, has already signed oil agreements with the US and consented to the release of political prisoners. Venezuela is now seeking to open channels of dialogue with Europe, which did not recognize Nicolas Maduro's re-election and has imposed sanctions on the country. Foreign Minister Ivan Gil described the meeting as 'sincere, cordial and pleasant' and stated that both sides agreed to work towards a productive relationship. This development comes just days after the start of the process of restoring bilateral diplomatic relations between Venezuela and the United States.
