Parliament Approves Law Proposal to Change Election Deadline in Case of Vacancy

The plenary session of the Parliament unanimously approved an urgent bill amending legislation regarding by-elections in the event of a vacant parliamentary seat. The amendment concerns extending the deadline for holding by-elections, as the initial 45-day deadline was deemed impractical in cases of large-scale elections. The Chairman of the Interior Committee, Aristos Damianou, clarified that the amendment does not concern an extension of the term, but is being made for practical reasons, to avoid holding elections in the middle of summer. The proposal comes from the Ministry of Interior and aims to avoid difficulties in organizing elections during specific time periods.
