Israel Accuses UN Security Council of Double Standards Over Somaliland Recognition

Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, criticized the UN Security Council for holding an emergency session regarding Israel's recognition of Somaliland, arguing that it represents a case of “double standards.” Danon pointed out that when other countries unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state, the matter is accepted without question, while Israel's sovereign actions, in accordance with international law, provoke strong reactions. The Israeli side maintains that the recognition of Somaliland is simply an acknowledgment of the existing reality for a region that has enjoyed de facto autonomy for three decades, and that Israel is acting within its sovereign rights.
