Greenland: The Island's Rich, Yet Untapped, Mineral Resources

Greenland, an autonomous region of Denmark, is at the center of geopolitical interest, particularly from the United States, due to its strategic location and abundant mineral resources. The Foreign Ministers of Denmark and Greenland are meeting with US officials at the White House to discuss the situation. Research has revealed the presence of 25 of the 34 minerals considered critical by the European Commission, including rare earths, graphite, copper, nickel, zinc, and gold. Despite this wealth, oil and gas extraction is prohibited for environmental reasons, while the development of the mining sector faces bureaucratic obstacles and opposition from indigenous people. Companies such as Critical Metals Corp, Energy Transition Minerals, and Neo Performance Materials are interested in rare earth mining, while GreenRoc is seeking a permit for graphite and 80 Mile for copper, nickel, platinum, and cobalt. Amaroq Minerals has already opened a gold mine.
