Paphos Municipality Official Wins Court Case After Allegations of Wrongful Dismissal and Corruption

A senior official of the Paphos Municipality has won a court case after allegations of wrongful dismissal. Her lawyer, Simos Angelidis, stated that the official was dismissed twice, with the court overturning both decisions. The case highlights serious issues of corruption and workplace bullying within the Municipality. According to Mr. Angelidis, the official had reported physical violence by the Mayor of Paphos, Phaedonos, as well as potential criminal offenses and corruption, including the case of Turkish Cypriot properties. These complaints, the lawyer claims, were ignored by the municipal council when making the decisions regarding the dismissal. Mr. Angelidis emphasized that the court decision was not based solely on technicalities, but found a “tense working relationship” and “specific complaints to the Police regarding workplace bullying and psychological violence.” This case highlights the need for transparency and accountability in the management of the Municipality. The lawyer stressed that the law must be applied equally to all, regardless of political connections or position. This case is considered an important test for local government reform and the fight against corruption.
