French Holiday Plans in Flux Amidst Middle East Crisis

A recent Ifop poll, conducted among a sample of 6300 French citizens, reveals a potential shift in summer holiday plans due to the crisis in the Middle East. According to the results, 40% of respondents say they might modify their travel plans, primarily avoiding countries affected by the crisis, such as Turkey and Egypt. Simultaneously, 20% of French people prefer to spend their vacation within France. However, a smaller percentage, around 7%, does not intend to change their plans and remains committed to traveling to countries like the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon. This maintenance of initial plans suggests a differentiated reaction within the public, with some considering the risk manageable or already committed to travel to these regions. Data from the Orchestra barometer shows a significant decrease in bookings for certain destinations. Bookings for Dubai have decreased by 91%, for Jordan by 81%, for Turkey by 55%, and for Egypt by 53% in the past week. This dramatic drop in bookings confirms the concern of French travelers and their tendency to seek safer destinations. Overall, the poll demonstrates a growing reluctance among French travelers, driven by the uncertainty caused by the crisis in the Middle East. The change in travel plans, the preference for domestic destinations, and the decrease in bookings for countries in the region are clear indications of this trend.
