Blackouts Hit Buenos Aires Amid Heatwave and Increased Demand

A major blackout hit Buenos Aires and its surrounding area, leaving approximately one million households and businesses without power due to increased demand caused by the heatwave. The electricity company Edesur reported that the fault was gradually repaired, with a few thousand consumers remaining without power by noon. At the same time, electricity bill increases of 2% were announced from January 1st. During the outage, residents and merchants protested by banging pots and pans. Pressure on the grid is expected to continue as temperatures are forecast to reach 38 degrees Celsius.
