Refugee Committee Seeks Justice for Family of Missing Policeman

The Parliamentary Committee on Refugees has requested justice for the family of missing policeman Panagiotis Pavlou, who was killed in 1974. His wife, Maroulla Pavlou, never received a benefit as the spouse of a missing person due to a cancellation on the benefit approval, while she was working to raise their four children and pay off the loan for the car that had been requisitioned. The committee states that the family has never been vindicated, neither Panagiotis himself, nor his wife, nor their children. Committee President Nikos Kettiros stated that the Legal Service has prepared an opinion on calculating Panagiotis Pavlou's salary, but no one could determine his exact salary. It was emphasized that there can be no bargaining for the rights of a hero and that his salary should be calculated and the family vindicated. The committee also agreed to re-examine all files from 1974, as there may be other cases of injustice. The benefit was cancelled with a signature on the file, without it being known to whom it belongs. Mr. Kettiros stressed that the case was brought to the attention of the Presidential Commissioner and the Ministry of Justice, and a swift resolution of the case is expected to restore the family.
