Supreme Court to Hear Appeal for Lifting MP Sykas' Immunity

The case of MP Nikos Sykas is before the Supreme Court, as the Legal Service seeks to lift his parliamentary immunity. The case concerns a complaint filed against him, which has since been withdrawn by the complainant. Despite the withdrawal of the complaint, the Legal Service is proceeding with the application for lifting the immunity, arguing that the Supreme Court has a duty to issue a reasoned decision regardless of the individual's status. The Legal Service will present all the evidence and arguments to the court, in order for it to judge whether the conditions for lifting the immunity are met. The withdrawal of the complaint does not change the fact that the investigating authorities have a duty to investigate the case in all its dimensions.
