US Justice Department to Review 5.2 Million Pages of Epstein Files

The US Justice Department announced it has 5.2 million pages of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein's case and is in the process of reviewing them. The process, expected to be completed by the end of January, will require the assistance of 400 lawyers from four different agencies within the department. This review may delay the release of the documents beyond the December 19th deadline set by Congress. The review of the files was initiated at the request of the Trump administration following the passage of a transparency law by Congress. The law requires the release of all documents related to Epstein, despite Trump's efforts to keep them sealed. The process includes telework options and leave as incentives for lawyers to participate, with an estimate that they should review approximately 1,000 documents per day. Additionally, the Justice Department discovered more than 1 million additional documents potentially linked to Epstein. The delay in releasing the documents has frustrated some Republicans, who are concerned about potential impacts on the 2026 midterm elections. Trump had social ties with Epstein in the 1990s and has stated he was unaware of his sexual misconduct.
