Attorney General Reiterates Reservations Regarding Separation of Powers Proposal

The Attorney General, Giorgos Savvides, reiterated his reservations regarding the bill for the separation of his powers, which concerns the judicial review of the Attorney General's decisions not to prosecute or to suspend a prosecution. During the session of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee, the Minister of Justice presented the provisions of the bill, while MP Christiana Erotokritou (DIKO) presented an alternative proposal. Mr. Savvides expressed concerns about the complexity of the undertaking and the potential burden on the courts, proposing the strengthening of internal procedures before the implementation of judicial review. Other representatives of the legal community, such as the President of the Pan Cypriot Bar Association, also expressed reservations.
