MEP Calls for EU Investigation into Cyprus 'Scandal Video'

MEP Sandro Gozzi, Secretary-General of the European Democratic Party (EDP), has submitted a question to the European Commission regarding the scandal video in Cyprus. The question calls for an investigation into possible cases of corruption, such as illegal funding of election campaigns, influence peddling by foreign investors, and attempts to influence the EU's sanctions regime. The EDP states that the video is linked to people close to the President and to strategic infrastructure projects under investigation by the European Public Prosecutor's Office. The case concerns potential irregularities and opaque practices that could undermine the integrity of the European decision-making process. The head of the Alma Movement, Odysseus Michaelides, warns that the revelations touch the core of the rule of law, indicating a system of corruption where political access, permits, and “donations” are dangerously intertwined. The EDP emphasizes that the issue concerns not only Cyprus but all of Europe, and calls on the Commission to ensure transparency, accountability, and integrity in the European decision-making process, especially in matters of sanctions and strategic investments.
