North Korea Launches Ballistic Missiles

Published January 4, 2026, 09:25

North Korea conducted its first weapons test of the year today, launching at least two ballistic missiles towards the East Sea. The test comes shortly after the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by the United States, an act Pyongyang accuses Washington of seeking to repeat against itself. Japan condemned the test, calling it a threat to peace and stability. Analysts believe the test is a response to the situation in Venezuela and a warning to the United States. The missiles traveled approximately 900 kilometers before falling into the sea.
