The Greek-American Community Needs Political Leadership
The annual White House event commemorating March 25th, honoring the Greek-American community, is being consistently downgraded due to Greece being represented by the Archbishop of America instead of the Greek Prime Minister. The difference in treatment between the Greek celebration and the Irish one, which included the Irish Prime Minister and members of Congress, highlights the lack of political weight given to the Greek community. The omission of mentioning Greece's enemies during the 1821 Revolution, by both the President and the Archbishop, underscores the need for a more dynamic and politically charged presentation of Greek history. Furthermore, allegations of corruption regarding event invitations exacerbate the situation. Upgrading the event with the presence of the Greek Prime Minister is considered essential to restore its prestige and political significance.
