Resignation Following Criticism of Wildfire Management

The government is facing intense criticism for its handling of the recent wildfire in the mountainous region of Larnaca, leading to the immediate removal of Ms. Anna Prokopiou-Koukidi from her position. Simultaneously, her colleague in the Ministry of Agriculture is under scrutiny for three significant issues: the wildfire in the mountainous region of Limassol, the water situation, and the threat of foot-and-mouth disease, which endangers livestock and halloumi exports. The decision to remove Ms. Prokopiou-Koukidi raises questions about the availability of other capable officials from EDEK to take on such responsibilities, as well as the application of different criteria in different cases. The criticism focuses on a lack of transparency and a feeling that the decision was an attempt to cover up responsibilities rather than address the problems substantively.
