Iran Ready to Dilute Enriched Uranium for Full Sanctions Relief

Iran has stated its willingness to "dilute" its highly enriched uranium if the United States lifts "all sanctions," according to the head of Iran's atomic energy organization, Mohammad Eslami, following the resumption of talks with the US regarding Tehran's nuclear program. The dilution of uranium would lower the enrichment level, which is currently far beyond the limit set by the 2015 international nuclear treaty. The exact scope of the sanctions that need to be lifted was not clarified, leaving it unclear whether Iran's demand refers to all sanctions or only those imposed by the US. Prior to US-Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in June 2025, Iran was already enriching uranium to 60%, a level much higher than the permitted 3.67%. This statement comes at a critical time, as negotiations between Iran and the US to revive the nuclear deal are ongoing. The deal, originally signed in 2015, aimed to curb Iran's nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions. The potential lifting of sanctions and the dilution of enriched uranium could be significant steps towards de-escalating tensions in the region and preventing further escalation of Iran's nuclear program.
