Iran: Explosions Reported in Tehran

Explosions were reported in Tehran and its surrounding areas this morning, according to Iranian media, shortly after Israel announced new strikes as part of the ongoing conflict. According to the Iranian news agency Fars, one explosion occurred in the western part of Tehran, while others were reported in the city of Karaj. AFP journalists in Tehran heard military aircraft and distant explosions, and saw smoke rising into the sky. The Israeli military had previously announced that it had launched "a large-scale wave of attacks on Iranian terrorist infrastructure" in Tehran. Simultaneously, explosions were heard in the capitals of Qatar (Doha) and Bahrain (Manama), according to AFP journalists. The Gulf countries have been targeted by Iranian attacks with drones and missiles since Saturday, in response to the strikes by the US and Israel on Iran. The situation in the region remains tense and developments are rapid. The escalation of the conflict is causing concern in the international community, while Cyprus is also on alert, as reported in other news.
