Spain Train Crash: At Least 24 Dead, Dozens Injured

A tragic train crash occurred in Spain, near the town of Adamuz, in the province of Cordoba, resulting in at least 24 deaths and 73 injuries, 15 of which are serious. The collision occurred between a high-speed train traveling from Malaga to Madrid and another heading towards Huelva. The Iryo train derailed on a straight section of track, which had been recently renovated, and entered the opposite lane, colliding head-on with the other train. The Spanish Minister of Transport described the incident as “truly strange,” given that it occurred on a level and easy section of the railway line. The rear of the Iryo train derailed and hit the other train. The collision caused the first two carriages of the Renfe train to derail, falling into a four-meter-deep ravine. Approximately 300 people were traveling on the first train, owned by the private company Iryo, while around 100 were on the second, operated by the state-owned Renfe. The trains were Freccia 1000 type, capable of reaching speeds of up to 400 km/h. The Iryo train was less than four years old. Authorities warn that the death toll may rise overnight, as more than 30 people are hospitalized in serious condition. Investigations into the cause of the accident are underway, with a focus on why the Iryo train derailed on a recently renovated section of track.
