Cyprus Police to Establish Coordination Center and Organized Crime Directorate

The Cyprus Police are moving forward with the establishment of a Coordination Center and a Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, as part of a broader plan to upgrade their operational capabilities and adapt to modern needs. The Chief of Police, Themistos Arnautis, presented the vision for the Police of 2030, which focuses on flexibility, enhancing citizen safety, and technological upgrades. The Coordination Center will serve as a central point for managing emergency calls (112), aiming for faster and more effective responses to citizen needs. The contract for the center's creation is expected to be signed soon, with details on cost and operation to be announced after informing the Minister of Justice. Simultaneously, the development of intelligence-led policing is being promoted, with an emphasis on strategic and operational analysis. High-ranking Europol officials are expected to visit Cyprus in January to discuss cooperation and information exchange. The Chief of Police emphasized the need for a modern policing model that transcends elements of the colonial era and responds to contemporary challenges. Technological upgrades and collaboration with the Deputy Ministry of Innovation are also key pillars of the plan.
