Yellow Warning: Strong Winds Up to 8 Beaufort on New Year's Day

Cyprus is welcoming the New Year with alternating sunshine and cloudiness and relatively mild temperatures. However, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for strong to very strong northwesterly winds, with gusts potentially reaching 8 Beaufort, especially in the west, north, and inland areas of the island. These winds are expected to affect outdoor activities and caution is advised for maritime transport and in exposed areas. Despite the general outlook, local showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, mainly in the west, north, and mountainous regions. Snow or sleet is forecast on the peaks of Troodos and in some mountainous areas. The sea will be wavy, but can become very wavy in the north and west. Temperatures will range around 14 degrees Celsius inland, 17 degrees Celsius on the coast, and 3 degrees Celsius in the higher mountains. In the evening, the weather will remain partly cloudy with northwesterly winds gradually weakening. The temperature will drop to 3 degrees Celsius inland, 8 degrees Celsius on the west coast, 5 degrees Celsius on the other coasts, and -2 degrees Celsius in the mountains. A warning is in place for possible frost in mountainous and sheltered plain areas, especially in the interior and southeast. The weather will be mainly clear on Friday and Saturday with transient clouds, while increased high clouds are expected on Sunday. The temperature will fall on Friday, but will gradually rise until Sunday.
