AKEL and RTK Jointly Commit to Breaking the Deadlock in Cyprus

The new President of the Republican Turkish Party (RTK), Sila Usar Incirli, met with a delegation from AKEL in Nicosia, confirming the commitment of both parties to joint action aimed at breaking the deadlock in Cyprus. Both parties support the achievement of a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality. The meeting focused on finding ways to restart negotiations from where they were interrupted in 2017 in Crans Montana, preserving convergences and utilizing the Guterres framework. AKEL General Secretary Stefanos Stefanou expressed concern about the lack of results from recent meetings between the leaders of the two communities, while Ms. Incirli emphasized the election of Tufan Erhurman as leader of the Turkish Cypriot community as confirmation of the will for a solution. Both sides agreed to strengthen confidence-building measures and intensify their cooperation.
