Cyprus Tourism Reaches Record High in 2025, Focus on Sustainability

Cyprus recorded its best tourism year in history in 2025, with Paphos contributing significantly to this success, registering a 30% increase in tourist arrivals. The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kostas Koumis, presented the strategy for 2026, emphasizing the maintenance of service quality and the smooth operation of tourist destinations. The government seeks continuous communication with local authorities and all stakeholders in the tourism sector to address challenges and strengthen positive momentum. A significant challenge for the future is climate change, which requires collective analysis and response. Mr. Koumis assured that no issues have been identified with local authorities, while the Deputy Ministry continuously evaluates the image of each destination. Special reference was made to the Paphos Marina, where the new process is progressing according to schedule, with contract signings expected in early 2027. The Mayor of Paphos, Phaedonas Phaedonos, described 2025 as an extremely successful year for tourism, while emphasizing the need to shift the focus from quantity to quality from 2026 onwards. Attracting tourists with higher per capita spending is a key goal for maintaining and enhancing success. Mr. Phaedonos also requested close monitoring and support from the Deputy Ministry of Tourism for three important projects in Paphos: the marina, the road connecting the tourist area to the airport, and other development projects.
