State Aid for Restoration of Abandoned Vineyards

The Controller of State Aid, Stella Michaelidou, announced a state aid scheme for the restoration of abandoned vineyards and other agricultural land, aiming to reduce the risk of wildfires. The Department of Agriculture is the competent authority for implementing the measure, while the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organisation will carry out the implementation and payment of the aid. The measure aims to improve the performance and sustainability of agricultural holdings, protect the environment by reducing fuel load, preserve cultural heritage, and adapt to climate change. Subsidies will be provided for works such as uprooting, cleaning, soil analysis, fertilization, purchase of planting material and planting, as well as the installation of supports. In addition, aid is provided for the mechanical control of weeds and the maintenance of clean agricultural plots. Eligible applicants are very small, small and medium-sized enterprises engaged in primary agricultural production, excluding problematic enterprises and those with pending recovery orders.
