No New Foot-and-Mouth Disease Cases Reported in Cyprus

The Veterinary Services announced that there have been no new cases of foot-and-mouth disease in Cyprus. Culling procedures are continuing as normal in the areas of Geri, Dromolaxia, and Oroklini, with minor delays due to weather conditions. Work is also underway to open trenches in Dali for the burial of animals. The services emphasize the importance of tracing potential cases that may originate from movements before February, conducting sampling within a 3 and 10 kilometer radius of confirmed cases, as well as in all provinces. It is noted that the samples do not detect antibodies from vaccinated animals, but focus on detecting the virus. The second dose of vaccination will begin at the end of March, while vaccines for pigs are expected by the end of March or early April. Veterinary authorities urge livestock farmers to trust official announcements and contact them with any questions.
