Letymbiotis: Cyprus Issue on European Agenda - Possibility of Erdogan Invitation Open

Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that the Cyprus issue is fundamentally a European matter and that Cyprus will place it on the European agenda during its presidency of the Council of the European Union. He noted that, should a clear political will emerge, the invitation of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan would also be considered. Mr. Letymbiotis emphasized that Turkey's European path remains open, but on the condition of genuine respect for the European Union and the country holding the presidency. The start of the Cypriot presidency was characterized as positive, sending clear messages about the priorities that will be set. Despite its size, the spokesman stated that Cyprus has consistently demonstrated its ability to mediate in critical European and regional issues. The Cypriot presidency will not be limited to administrative tasks but will seek substantial interventions, promoting its own strategic priorities. Cyprus will be managing hundreds of files while simultaneously striving to shape European policy in areas of interest. The presidency is expected to be full of challenges, but also opportunities for Cyprus to play a leading role in the EU.
