M. Panagiotou to Parliament: "Income Loss Estimated for at Least 12 Months"

The session of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture is underway regarding the spread of foot-and-mouth disease in the areas of Idalion and Geri. The Minister of Agriculture, Maria Panagiotou, is answering questions about the handling of the situation so far and the next steps to address the crisis. An advance payment for loss of income has already been made, which can reach up to 50,000 euros per unit, while compensation for materials such as hay will be covered at 100%. Income loss is estimated for at least 12 months, and the transfer of animals abroad is being considered. The first dose of vaccine has covered 82% of dairy units and 45.7% of sheep and goats.
