Historic Collective Agreement Signed for Community Volunteer Councils

The year 2026 began with a significant achievement for the labor movement in Cyprus: the signing of the First Sectoral Collective Agreement covering all employees of the Community Volunteer Councils (CVCs). This agreement establishes a unified framework for labor relations in the sector, resulting from long-term struggles and demands by the PEΟ. 2025 was a year of intense trade union activity, with the signing and renewal of collective agreements in critical sectors such as ports, local government, and large industries. Simultaneously, mass mobilizations and interventions took place on various issues, including opposition to the arrival of the Israeli President and support for bicommunal actions to open roadblocks. Significant strike actions were held in companies where wages were not paid, as well as in local government organizations demanding the signing of Pan-Cypriot Collective Agreements. Mass anti-racist and anti-fascist marches were also organized in various cities. The PEΟ played a central role in all these developments, seeking to expand labor rights and address issues of accuracy and insecurity. The signing of the sectoral collective agreement for the CVCs is an important step in this direction, but the trade union struggle remains constant and organized.
