Bayern Munich: Musiala Close to Return After Seven Months

Bayern Munich may have Jamal Musiala available again for Saturday's away league match against Leipzig, coach Vincent Kompany has said. The 22-year-old German international is returning after almost seven months of absence due to a serious injury. Musiala suffered a fibula fracture, as well as an ankle fracture and dislocation, following a collision with then-Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in a Club World Cup match in early July 2023. Until that point, he was having an excellent season, with 21 goals and 8 assists in all competitions, contributing decisively to Bayern's Bundesliga title. “If everything goes well today, the plan is for him to be in the squad,” Kompany said at a press conference, however, he stressed that both Musiala and also Alphonso Davies, who is also ready to play, will not be pressured to perform at their best immediately. Despite Musiala's long absence, Bayern is having an impressive run in the league. The 3-1 win over Cologne on Wednesday brought the Bavarians to 47 points after 17 matchdays. Bayern has scored 66 goals so far, also a new record for the competition. They have a goal difference of +53, a record performance for the first half of the season in the Bundesliga. The previous record belonged to Bayern in the 2013/14 season, during Pep Guardiola's era.
