German Defense Minister Dismisses US Greenland Acquisition Speculation

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that he does not expect the United States to annex Greenland, despite recent statements by the American President. He stressed the need for calm and warned against overinterpreting hypothetical scenarios. Mr. Pistorius estimated that any strengthening of the military presence would be done in coordination with the United States and with a NATO decision, if requested by Denmark. At the same time, he warned that discussion around the issue serves NATO's opponents and could cause insecurity. He underlined the strategic importance of the Arctic, with increasing presence from Russia and China, and reiterated that the German military presence in Greenland aims to protect NATO territory.
