Syrian Army Halts Military Operations in Aleppo

The Syrian army announced that it has regained control of the Sheikh Mascout area in Aleppo from Kurdish fighters, declaring a ceasefire. However, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) deny the takeover, claiming they are still resisting. Reports indicate that the attacks by government forces are supported by Turkish drones. The ceasefire came into effect at 3:00 PM (local time), but AFP correspondents reported hearing gunfire earlier. The army's announcement warns residents to remain in their homes. The capture of Sheikh Mascout would mark the end of Kurdish dominance in parts of Aleppo that Kurdish forces have controlled since 2011, although the Kurds still control large areas in the northeastern part of Syria. US envoy for Syria Tom Barack met with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi in Amman, aiming to consolidate the ceasefire and ensure the peaceful withdrawal of Kurdish forces. The situation remains fluid, with conflicting reports about control of the area.
