Cyprus' Drone Capabilities Exported to Ukraine

Cyprus has emerged as an exporter of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to Ukraine, with the Swarmly company, based in Limassol, being involved in their design and manufacture since 2018. These drones, although unarmed, possess significant surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities, as they can fly for up to four hours within a 50-kilometer radius, carrying electro-optical and thermal systems. Their integration into the National Guard is considered important, as they replace the traditional method of observation with officers and maps, offering accuracy and speed in targeting enemy positions. Funding for the equipment programs comes from SAFE, adding approximately 220 million euros to the defense budget, reaching a total of 400 million euros. Despite the progress, there is a staffing problem for the operation of these systems. The company has achieved significant export successes, but not all of them have been officially announced.
