The happiest countries for 2026 - Where does Cyprus rank?

The World Happiness Report for 2026 ranks countries based on a three-year average of life assessments by citizens, considering factors such as GDP, social support, life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, and perceptions of corruption. For the first time, a Latin American country, Costa Rica, enters the top five, rising from 23rd place in 2023 to fourth. Finland maintains its first place for nine of the last ten years, attributing its well-being to security and trust. Iceland follows in second place, with strong social cohesion. The report highlights that for the second consecutive year, no major English-speaking country is in the top 10. Greece ranks 85th, scoring 5,697 points, while Cyprus ranks 62nd with 6,126 points, one position below Japan. Greece has fallen from 64th place last year, while Cyprus from 50th. The report highlights the importance of social support, freedom, and good governance for the well-being of citizens. Costa Rica, for example, has made progress in these areas, which explains its rise in the rankings. Finland and Iceland, on the other hand, continue to be examples of countries with a high level of well-being and social cohesion.
