The Profile of a Solution-Oriented Leader for Cyprus

The situation in Cyprus is increasingly difficult, with the current President appearing unable to manage it effectively. The author argues that the President's priority is re-election and personal promotion, not resolving the national issue. Historical examples of previous leaders (Spyros Kyprianou, Tassos Papadopoulos, Nikos Anastasiades) are cited, who, in the author's view, missed crucial opportunities for a solution. The election of Tufan Erhurman in the occupied territories is presented as a positive development, in contrast to the rejectionist stance of Nikos Christodoulides. The need for a leader with a sole focus on resolving the Cyprus issue is emphasized, as well as Turkey's retreat from its initial position of a two-state solution. Resolving the problem is considered urgent, given the current President's term until 2028 and the possibility of losing the opportunity for a solution.
