Cyprus Presidency Continues Work Despite Regional Crisis, President Assures

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, assured from Brussels that despite the crisis in the neighborhood, the Cypriot Presidency continues its work as planned. The statement was made during the Tripartite Social Summit, where concerns were expressed about the situation in the Middle East and rising energy costs. President Christodoulides emphasized that daily life in Cyprus remains unchanged, despite international impressions, and that the Presidency continues to deliver results. He highlighted Cyprus's dual role as a member state of the EU and a country in the Mediterranean and the Middle East, assuring that Cyprus is not part of the crisis. He conveyed the expectations of the countries in the region from the EU, emphasizing the need for the Union's interest and leadership role in de-escalating the situation, in cooperation with third countries. He thanked European countries for their support to Cyprus. In addition, he sent a message to investors and businesses, assuring that Cyprus is a safe, stable, and fully functional hub for businesses, investments, and tourism. The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, described the situation in the Middle East as “particularly worrying” and pointed out that Cyprus has already been targeted by a proxy of Iran.
