Easter Table: Price Increases of Up to 28% on Lamb and Beef

Price increases of up to 28% are being recorded for lamb and beef ahead of Easter, according to a survey by the Consumer Protection Service. Prices were compared between April 14th and March 17th in four supermarkets, with local lamb showing an increase of 11% to 28% and boneless beef 14% to 28%. Conversely, pork prices show greater variation, with a 9.8% decrease in one supermarket and a 29.9% increase in another. The Service also published the Consumer Price Observatory for February, which records an increase in 19 out of 45 categories of basic products. Significant increases were observed in fresh vegetables and greens (20%), frozen breaded meats (16.1%) and fresh fish and seafood (14.9%). The price of liquefied petroleum gas (3.3%) and baby food (1.3%) also increased. Conversely, decreases were recorded in frozen shellfish/mollusks (-31.2%), sugar (-4.5%) and frozen fish (-4%). Overall, the survey shows a general trend of rising prices for basic consumer products, with significant fluctuations depending on the product and supermarket. The Consumer Protection Service continues to monitor prices and publish comparisons to help consumers make more informed choices.
