PEP: A Redefinition of its Role is Necessary

The Pan-Cypriot Refugee Association (PEP) has played a crucial role in supporting the refugee community since the Turkish invasion of 1974. For 51 years, PEP has been a pillar of support for displaced persons, raising awareness of the Cyprus issue as a problem of invasion and occupation internationally. However, the loss of the first generation of refugees, the emotional disconnect of younger generations, the questioning of the right of return, and the uncontrolled development in the occupied territories create new challenges. PEP faces limited financial resources and minimal staff, while being called upon to meet increasing needs. Therefore, a redefinition of its role is necessary, while maintaining its founding principles and strengthening information and guidance for refugees.
