‘Ghost Ship’ in the Mediterranean: Damaged Russian Tanker Carrying LNG Continues to Drift

A tanker carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) and owned by Russia, the Arctic Metagaz, is drifting in the Mediterranean Sea after sustaining serious damage on March 4th. The semi-submerged vessel, 277 meters long, is moving without a crew, carried by ocean currents and approaching Malta. Maltese authorities are preparing for a possible emergency, as the ship contains thousands of tons of natural gas and poses a risk to other vessels and the environment. According to Libyan authorities, the ship was attacked by a drone from Ukraine, while Russia accuses Ukraine of the attack. The crew of 30 has been rescued.
