Cheese and Dementia Risk: New Research Reveals Potential Benefits

New research suggests that regular consumption of full-fat cheese may be linked to a lower risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. A long-term Swedish study, which followed nearly 28,000 people for 25 years, showed that daily consumption of at least 50 grams of full-fat cheese reduced the risk of dementia by 13% and the risk of vascular dementia by 29%. The positive association was mainly observed in individuals who did not carry the APOE e4 gene. Similar, but milder, results were observed with the consumption of full-fat cream. Researchers believe the benefit is due to the combination of nutrients and bioactive compounds in full-fat dairy products, but emphasize the complexity of diet and the need for a personalized approach.
