Iranian Community in Cyprus Seeks Political Support for Protests

Members of the Iranian community in Cyprus staged a protest outside the House of Representatives, seeking political support for the Iranian people peacefully demonstrating. A resolution was delivered to the President of the House, Annita Demetriou, with requests including the listing of the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) as a terrorist organization at the European level, the imposition of targeted sanctions on Iranian political, military, and judicial officials, and an international investigation into human rights violations. The protesters also called for the suspension of the Iranian embassy in Nicosia and any form of bilateral cooperation until the violence ceases. The president of the Iranian community in Cyprus, Alexis Machtavi, made a personal appeal to President Demetriou, condemning the violence and asking for help to end the deaths. They expressed their concern about the inability to communicate with their families in Iran due to the disruption of telephone and internet services. President Demetriou assured the protesters of the House's support for their struggle for democracy and freedom, announcing the submission of a relevant resolution. She emphasized that Cyprus, having experienced its own struggles for freedom, stands with the Iranian people and will take responsibility to help achieve justice.
