President Christodoulides Pays Tribute to George Vassiliou

President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides, in his eulogy for George Vassiliou, described him as a prominent, virtuous, and cosmopolitan man, with a free spirit and steadfast beliefs. He emphasized Vassiliou's long and challenging journey, from Famagusta to Europe and Africa, and how these experiences shaped his personality as an economist, technocrat, and politician. President Christodoulides stated that the resolution of the Cyprus issue and the reunification of the homeland were Vassiliou's highest priorities, but expressed his regret that he left with this desire unfulfilled. He also highlighted Vassiliou's significant contribution to the modernization of the state, through reforms such as tax transformation, upgrading of the public administration, and the establishment of the first public university.
