President: Institutional Breakthrough in Healthcare System with Palliative Care Legislation

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, welcomed the unanimous parliamentary approval of the bill on palliative care, describing it as a "substantial breakthrough" in the Cypriot healthcare system. The legislation ensures the provision of quality, safe, and dignified care to patients with serious and life-threatening illnesses, as well as their families. The law fulfills a moral and institutional obligation of the state to guarantee universal access to interdisciplinary services and continuous support. A key element of the law is the establishment of the National Council for Palliative Care, which will oversee the quality of services and the coordination of stakeholders. The participation of organized patients and related organizations enhances transparency and responsiveness to societal needs. President Christodoulides emphasized that this development confirms the state's commitment to a more humane, fair, and accessible healthcare system.
