DISY Proposes Seven Measures to Mitigate Impact of Middle East Crisis on Cyprus Tourism

The Democratic Rally (DISY) held a meeting with representatives from the tourism and economic sectors to discuss the potential impact of the Middle East crisis on the Cypriot economy. Representatives reported that cancellations of bookings are already being observed, particularly for March-May, and a slowdown in new bookings. There is concern about the need to strengthen the image of Cyprus as a safe destination and to take measures to support the tourism sector. DISY President Annita Demetriou emphasized that the crisis creates risks that were not visible a short time ago and requires a comprehensive management plan. She highlighted the need to address the risks to tourism and the impact of rising energy prices on households and businesses. DISY proposed seven measures, including maintaining air connectivity, promoting incentive schemes for tourism, launching an international promotion campaign for Cyprus with an increased budget, enhancing the competitiveness of Cypriot businesses, promoting economic diversification, strengthening energy security, and promoting cooperation with countries in the region. The proposals aim to protect the tourism sector and the Cypriot economy from the negative effects of the crisis in the Middle East.
