Raouna: Cypriot Presidency a Moment of Responsibility for the EU

The Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, stated that the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU is a moment of responsibility, given the high stakes for the European Union. She emphasized that the assumption of the Presidency came after two years of intensive preparation. Ms. Raouna mentioned that Cyprus, as a small member state, has the ability to effectively manage complexity and crises, thanks to the diplomatic experience it has gained due to its national issue and geographical location. She stressed that Cyprus can set aside the national agenda and focus exclusively on the European agenda, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability. Furthermore, Ms. Raouna highlighted that Cyprus has the ability to listen, be inclusive, bridge differences, and achieve tangible results, such as the recent agreement with Mercosur. The Presidency is a national priority for President Christodoulides and his government. The Deputy Minister stated that Cyprus approaches the role of the Presidency as an opportunity to translate the EU's strategic goals into concrete tools and to unfold its strategic priorities.
