GESY Software Issues Cripple Healthcare System: Doctors and Pharmacists in Despair

Serious and recurring malfunctions in the GESY (Cyprus National Health Insurance System) information system are causing problems in the daily operation of doctors' offices and pharmacies. Doctors and pharmacists are expressing their anxiety as the issues affect patient care, especially during a surge in infections. The malfunctions, which began in October 2024, occur almost weekly, with the system being slow or freezing. The OAY (Organization of State Health Services) is giving assurances that the problem will be resolved at the beginning of next week, however, providers are questioning the effectiveness of the measures being taken. Doctors are forced to take notes on paper, while pharmacists are asking patients to return later.
