Desperate 80-Year-Old Denied Treatment for Rare Disease Due to Bureaucracy

An 80-year-old man in Cyprus is in a desperate situation as he lacks access to the necessary medication for a rare and serious disease, amyloidosis. The elderly man, a father of seven, was diagnosed with the disease last summer, which causes the buildup of abnormal proteins in vital organs. Despite the urgent need for treatment, his application for approval to receive specialized medication has been rejected four times due to bureaucratic obstacles, including the requirement for additional tests that have not been scheduled. The cost of treatment amounts to 14,000 euros, an amount the patient cannot afford. The situation is further complicated by his concern for the health of his wife, who is facing vision problems.
