Spain Train Tragedy: Broken Rail Link Suspected, Death Toll Reaches 40

At least 40 people have died and many were injured in a train tragedy in Spain, near Adamuz, in the province of Cordoba. A high-speed train derailed and collided with another train traveling in the opposite direction. Authorities are focusing on a broken rail link as a possible cause of the accident, which is believed to have existed for some time. The investigation is ongoing, and initial estimates suggest that the first carriages passed over the gap in the rails without derailing, but the last carriages were the ones that left the track. The train operating company, Iryo, is a private provider with Italian involvement.
